Unfortunately I'm not too savvy on non-linux metasploit installations,
but I do know in Linux that the gem is a function created by the
RubyGem's package.  Since this error calls on the gem function it would
be safe to assume that something is wrong with your RubyGems package. I
googled a portion of the error you entered ("undefined method 'gem' for
main:Object") and found many interesting ideas and solutions to this
issue.
